The Manawatu Striders Super Seven Series is an annual 7km run/walk series over 7 weeks, on Tuesday nights at 6:15pm. $3 cash entry on the night.

The event starts and finishes at YMCA, Park Road (adjacent Ongley Park), Palmerston North.

The Jennian Homes Mother’s Day Fun Run and Walk at the Ashburton Domain is one several events across New Zealand, supporting the Heart Foundation.

Why not hit the streets and run, walk or have a leisurely stroll with your mum, daughter, sister or a group of girlfriends this Mother’s Day? It will be a wonderful way to start the day and you’ll be doing your bit to beat heart disease and keep more families together.

The Massey Child Care Centre Urban Fundraiser Rogaine is a 90 minute urban rogaine at the Massey University Campus in Palmerston North.

This family event will explore the known and unknown spots of the University and its surroundings. Teams of two or three are given a map of the area to complete with circles indicating the location of checkpoints. Teams visit as many checkpoints as they can within the 90 minute period. Checkpoints are described by clues and have different values points ascribed to them. After 90 minutes, everyone converges at the start/finish point to compare notes and maybe collect a spot prize.

The Mt Linton Muster has mountain bike and running / walking events at Mt Linton Station in Southland. It is organised by the Lions Club of Ohai / Nightcaps and the Takitimu Primary School P.T.A.

One day a year access has been granted by Mt Linton Station so that entrants may ride, run and walk these farm tracks and forestry roads. This is an off road event over private land and a unique opportunity to experience the incredible vistas of Western Southland and the Takitimu Mountains.

The running events are the “The Linton Hill” 21km half marathon and “The Loch” recreational walk and “The Loch” fun run.

The annual Great Forest Events is in the scenic Matariki Forest at Waitere Beach near Levin and is run on forest roads with no vehicles to worry about. Great Forest Events has 42km marathon, 21km half marathon and 10km and 5km fun runs.

The course is a half marathon circuit and a two circuit marathon course giving views of the scenic Manawatu River. 10km and 5km Events are fun run/walks and families and schools are encouraged to enter. There are water stations and marshals along each route and plenty of shade.

Great Forest Events is recognised as New Zealand’s number one off road marathon and the event is growing in popularity each year with the total number of participants reaching over 3200 in 2016.

The event held at Waitarere Beach, Levin provides the ideal opportunity for everyone to enjoy the scenery whilst getting active. The event consists of a marathon run and walk, a half marathon run and walk, a 10km fun run and walk, and a 5km fun run and walk. There is a race to suit every fitness and age level.

The Brine to Wine is a 16km road race in Wanganui, organised by the Wanganui Harrier Club.

Run or walk solo or in a relay team of 2 to 4 people. Teams can also do a composite with a walk on legs 1 and 3 and run on legs 2 and 4.

There is a prize giving and sausage sizzle after the event. All entrants receive a free sausage and soft drink.

The Tararua Mountain Race is one of New Zealand’s oldest mountain races in the Tararua Ranges. The race traverses the Southern Crossing tramping route from Kaitoke to Otaki Forks, transforming this three-day hard tramp into a one-day trail run of epic proportions.

The 35km event is defined by the weather conditions. The Tararua Mountain Range is a notoriously changeable environment, with high winds and low cloud being common for a ten km section of the race when above the bush line. Extreme care is required.

Participants start the Southern Crossing in waves, depending on their estimated finish time, those aiming for a faster time start later in the morning.

In distance, the track is 35.4km and the total ascent is 2,250m. The total descent is 2,475m.

The Great PukeokaHu man v Horse Race is a marathon is an event over steep hill country terrain in the back blocks of Taihape, with a slight twist – it’s a race between two legs and four!

The race is a figure of eight course where runners run concurrently with horses, with a staggered start time which will be adjusted for the results. Good sportmanship between runners and riders is expected at all times to make it an enjoyable event for runners, riders and volunteers!

Athletics & Cycling Masterton’s Trust House Summer Series caters for runners and recreational walkers of all ability levels, with races between October and February each year. The first and last race each year is usually at the ACM Club Rooms in Masterton.

You will be placed in a grade depending on your ability. There will be four running grades at full distance, plus Walkers, Juniors, and Midgets. Grades will not be changed during the series. If you wish to be in a specific grade, you must notify the officials on the day of the first race.

The Kapiti Women’s Triathlon has several triathlon and duathlon events as well as a 5km fun run/walk. Most events have team options.

The fun run/walk starts at the triathlon/duathlon transition area, and follows the Wharemauku stream walking track. The run course changes slightly for 2017, due to the construction of the expressway. It still follows the stream, crossing the bridge by the airport and continues up past the detour around the construction site.

The Raetihi Gutbuster is a fun way to experience the scenery and history of the Raetihi-Pipiriki road that lies between the Tongariro and Whanganui National Parks. There are 18km running and bike ride events, a 25km downhill ride and a 50km ride.

This event starts from the Waimarino Museum and follows an out and back course along the historic Raetihi-Pipiriki road. There’s a 5km downhill section from the start followed by a steep 2km climb to the Waipuna turnoff; then turn around and run back again.

Great Spot Prizes include Mt Ruapehu Season Passes, and jet boat trips to the Bridge to Nowhere. The start and finish area at the Museum has a market day atmosphere with cake stalls, BBQs and coffee vendors.
