A unique event only 20 minutes from the centre of Christchurch set amidst the majesty of Banks Peninsula’s extinct volcanoes with magnificent vistas of Lyttelton Harbour and Mt’s Herbert & Bradley.
This is a race of laps … each lap is made up of two loops … one 6.9km & one of 5.9km, so roughly 13km per lap depending on how we set out the aid area. Depending on the distance you choose you can either do 1/2 a lap or 13 laps or something in between. Each full lap has around 600m of altitude gain and loss … for those doing the 161km (100 miles) that 8000m is like climbing Everest. Each loop passes through the aid area so no need to carry packs and compulsory gear … although you will need to have certain gear located in the aid area.
The course is a mixture of open 4wd tracks, easy single track with a bit of sweet technical downhill single track that will test tired bodies and krayzie minds. You will meander alongside streams and climb steep gullies .. through open farmland and stunning native bush with stream crossings and stiles and just a few steps thrown in to challenge weary legs. This is sure to be an event that will stimulate your senses and nourish your soul … and maybe cause you to curse the organisers just a little along the way. It is achievable for new trail runners, challenging for seasoned runners and a true test of mind, body and spirit for those choosing the ultra distances.
