This is a fun run & walk on the Rimutaka Rail trail through the Rimutaka Ranges. All courses are predominately off-road. The rail trail rises from 254m above sea level at the start, along a steady gradient <1 in 40 until the bridge at Ladle Bend.
The 7km course is an out and back on the early flat stages of the trail.
The 14km course continues on the trail until the turnaround just before Ladle Bend Bridge.
The 21km course turns left immediately past the Ladle Bend Bridge, and gradually climbs onto a steeper undulating track (which depending on the weather may include a shallow creek crossing) and very picturesque Back Road. The trail continues to climb to the high point then loops back to the main Rail Trail (approximately half way). On returning to the main Rail Trail it is all downhill back to the finish near Race HQ. Please note that the 21km starts approximately 425m down the road from Race HQ.
Most of the course is on gravel/dirt road and is suitable for both road and trail shoes.
