The course is two laps of 2.5km which runs around and through a section of Trentham Memorial Park in Upper Hutt. The course surface is mostly on a concreted footpath, with a small section through native bush.

There is a one-lap/2.5km option for those who feel that they aren’t quite ready for the 5km.

The XTERRA Wellington Trail Running Series race at the Akatarawa Forest near Paraparaumu is part of an annual series of off road trail runs through the winter in Wellington, New Zealand.

Each race in the series has short, medium and long distances, which equate to approximately 5km to 7km for short courses, 10km to 14km for medium courses, and 17km to 20km+ for long courses.

The Porirua Grand Traverse has a number of events with individual and team categories in the multisport event, a duathlon option for non-kayakers, the 18km mountain run or the 7.5km fun run/walk and a dedicated youth challenge.

The mountain run goes up Colonial Knob and along the shores of Cook Strait, with terrain ranging from bush and farmland to beaches and wild rocky coastlines. “It was the first time I ever stopped in a race to admire the view,” said one participant.

The fun run route is a spectacular and achievable course from Titahi Bay, along the beachfront, over Whitireia Park and then taking walking tracks around to Onepoto for a final 2k to the finish line at Whitireia Polytechnic.

The Hutt Valley Harriers and Shoe Clinic bring you the Hutt Fun Run and Walk, with 5km and 10km run and walk events and a kids 1km event for children under 10.

This event is a family friendly fun run and walk for people of all ages and abilities along the banks of the Hutt River and the course is suitable for baby strollers.

It has been run annually since 2003 and is organised by Hutt Valley Harriers, the largest running and walking club in the Hutt Valley

The Kapiti Women’s Triathlon has several triathlon and duathlon events as well as a 5km fun run/walk. Most events have team options.

The fun run/walk starts at the triathlon/duathlon transition area, and follows the Wharemauku stream walking track. The run course changes slightly for 2017, due to the construction of the expressway. It still follows the stream, crossing the bridge by the airport and continues up past the detour around the construction site.
